Popularly known as the garden of England thanks to its abundance of orchards and hop gardens, Kent is a romantic, relaxing spot that is surprisingly close to London, yet feels a million miles away from the hubbub of the city.

History buffs will be pleased with the almost endless array of castles, stately homes, abbeys, cathedrals and other historic sites to visit, while green-fingered types will love admiring the handiwork at Kent’s many stunning gardens, including Quex Park and Goodnestone Park.

Of course, all this sightseeing will no doubt leave you a little peckish, and luckily Kent has this covered too, with great restaurants a-plenty, as well as an abundance of delis selling Kent preserves and produce to take home with you.

This county is truly deserving of its nickname, and is the ideal place for a couple’s weekend away. Indeed, even the food blogs are romantic – Canterbury Food Love Story charts the journey of a Catalan foodie falling in love with English fare.
