Tyne & Wear

Without Tyne & Wear we wouldn’t have the glorious city of Newcastle, and without Newcastle we wouldn’t have beloved comedy duo Ant & Dec. We also wouldn’t have Geordie Shore, but, you know, you win some you lose some.
A part of the city’s genuine history is the remarkably well preserved and Grade I listed Castle Keep, which was built in the 12th Century by order of Henry II and is an incredible marker of Norman architecture. The nearby Black Gate also makes for a fascinating tourist trip.
Meanwhile, in Gateshead, visitors simply must check out the Angel of North, an enormous piece of modern art that was designed by Antony Gormley and erected in 1998. The town is also famed for its numerous bridges, especially the marvel of the tilting Gateshead Millennium Bridge. This wonder of construction has also been commemorated on a pound coin design.
All of this sightseeing will be well rewarded when it comes to choosing a place for an evening meal. Gastropubs, especially ones like the Michelin-Bib-Gourmand-awarded Broad Chare, will see you no less than stuffed with Geordie hospitality at an excellent price, whilst others will enjoy the fine dining stylings of top-class restaurants such as The Cherry Tree.
