Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival
Saturday September 23 2017to Saturday September 30 2017
Cheese, glorious cheese! Where would the world be without this wonderous creation of dairy dreaminess? Imagine a world with no pizza, no ploughman's, no paneer, no raclette, no enchiladas, no halloumi... we could go on but we can't bear it.
A brand new weekend festival will be launching in the Yorkshire Dales, in the town of Wensleydale, to celebrate the joyful creation that is cheese. The Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival will celebrate the rich cheese-making heritage of the Yorkshire Dales as well as shine the spotlight on the array of local cheeses that visitors can now enjoy. Over the 23rd and 24th at the Wensleydale Creamery, expect huge numbers of producers and connoisseurs from the region offering product tastings, cookery and cheese-making demonstrations and drink pairing talks. The festival will then continue into the week, spreading all over the Dales as restaurants, cafes, farms and attractions come together to champion the fantastic range of food that is produced right on the doorstep.
The thriving cheese scene in the Yorkshire Dales is partly a result of Cistercian monks who brought their fromage-making skills over from Normandy when they settled at abbeys nearby back in the 11th century, and started making Wensleydale cheese.
