You've missed this event
The National Fruit Collection hosts the biggest apple festival in the UK and with thousands of varieties of fruit to discover and a plethora of activities to get involved with – it’s one of the best. It’s not all apples though - there will be a selection of all sorts of food on offer to tickle your tastebuds.
Of course the star of the show will be the fruit on display in the orchard, which you can take a free tour of, here you’ll not only find over 500 types of apple and pears but also cherries, plums, quince, currants and some nuts too. You’re sure to find a flavour you favour and have never experienced before as you try and buy apples throughout the day. If you’d prefer fruit in liquid form, Turner’s spiced cider tent will be where you want to head. If pie is more your thing why not enter into the hands free eating competition open to adults and children (don’t worry they get a much smaller portion!).
If you’ve not got much of a sweet tooth and are feeling peckish, at the fabulous food stalls you’ll be able to indulge in just about anything. Whether the traditional hog roast is just too tempting to resist, the desire for some Pad Thai overcomes you or you’d like to nibble on some olives and cheese- it will be a foodie heaven. You can also improve your cooking at home by attending one of the talks or chef demonstrations where you’ll learn to make the most of seasonal ingredients in your dishes.
As the activities go, there will be a great range for all ages from a miniature train ride around the farm, face painting, arts and crafts, walking tours of Brogdale’s grounds, live music and archery. There will even be a falconry display too.
So for an action packed day that will be ever so sweet come to The National Apple Festival and discover what there is to eat.
