Berwick-upon-Tweed’s annual celebration of beer and food is something that we look forward to with relish. Opposite Berwick’s Georgian barracks, on the green, a marquee is erected to distribute fine ales to the hundreds of visitors who come from near and far. Berwick has ale running through its veins and there are plenty of local ales, celebrating the town’s malting history. Friday is a dedicated day to all things ale as the weekend kicks off with a day of beer, only to lead on to the beer and food filled weekend. Hold the phone: there’s also an all-new Street Food Street links all the areas of the festival together.
The food scene on the Northumberland-Scotland border is thriving and vibrant, and the Berwick Food & Beer Festival demonstrates the area’s local produce. A plethora of stalls, cooking demos, an animal farm, foodie films, kid’s activities and live music are all to be enjoyed throughout the weekend. We love bringing the kids here. They have a whale of time and we know that we’re sneakily teaching them about their food and getting them interested in the history of the area. It’s a win-win situation for families. Not to mention, the entrance fee (which is less than a cup of coffee) also gives you access to Berwick’s museums so you can really make a day, or even a weekend, of it.
