The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining; it’s official – spring is here! With the gloriously warmer weather comes a whole host of fabulous festivals, showcasing all of the tasty treats that are in season. To help you out of your hibernation, we’ve collected together all of the April events we’re most looking forward to in one handy place. Let the frolicking begin.
Cheltenham Wine Festival, April 7th, Pitville Pump Room
Sipping a sensational selection of world wines is a fantastic way to spend the day. For one Saturday in April, there will be no better place to do this than at the Cheltenham Wine Festival!
With over 300 wines from countries far and wide, produced in vineyards old and new there will be a chance to explore some unique wines as well as your familiar favourites.
Scottish Vegan Festival, April 21st, Edinburgh
Calling all wee vegan lasses and laddies, the Scottish Vegan Festival returns to the Edinburgh Corn Exchange this April.
Check out over 100 amazing stalls including the experienced Bute Island Foods who have been making vegan and dairy free cheese for over 20 years. Joining them will be The Hectic Vegan magazine which provides information and news on all things vegan, including lifestyle tips, food reviews, city guides and recipe ideas.
Bishop Auckland Food Festival, April 21st-22nd, Durham
Now in its 13th year, Bishop Auckland Food Festival (BAFF) is a two day celebration of local food, producers and chefs and set in a historical and scenic market town, it’s a favourite in the foodie’s calendar. Stalls offering local, regional and seasonal produce, cookery demonstrations from professional chefs and food-related fun for young foodies too.
This festival is the perfet place to espresso yourself, and you'll be in great company with some 22,500 other coffee fans expected to attend. There'll be around 250 types of coffee to try and buy, along with some delectable food too. This year's festival will also see the first ever coffee masters competition, to find the best multi-disciplined barista in the country.
Framlingham Country Festival/Suffolk Food, Drink & Music Festival, April 7th-8th, Suffolk
There will be plenty of activities for all the family as there will also be a seperate festival - the Festival of Dogs. There will be rural crafters on site showing you tips and tricks to craft your own products and also offering you the chance to purchase some truly unique gifts. There will be music and entertainment throughout the day and the opportunity to sit and take it all in. From popular contestants from The Voice, to great local bands there will be some really great music on offer.
Great Missenden Food Festival, March 30th -April 2nd, Chilterns
The organisers have every base covered from absolutely delicious foods, music, interactive master classes and children’s activities. If you’d rather learn how to fillet fish make sure you pop along to the master class theatre or if you fancy honing your knife skills there’s a special skills theatre too!
After all this learning you’re likely to get peckish and then it’s time to rock down to street food avenue where an array of cuisines will be waiting to entice you. You can find a cosy spot in the picnic area with a view of the stage and relax with some great live music. Take some food home with you too from the local produce market!
Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival, March 31st - 2nd April, Chester Racecourse
The Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival takes place every Easter, and is the place to be if you’re looking to experience the very best in food and drink from Cheshire and beyond. It will be held at Chester Racecourse and therefore offers visitors free on-site parking.
Festival-goers will be treated to the aromas, tastes and wonderful views of high-quality food and drink. More than 150 exhibitors will be in attendance over the three days, serving up delectable treats, made using local ingredients and produce from further afield.
Liverpool Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival, 28-29th April, Sefton Park
Refreshingly, you’ll find the festival is all about celebrating spring and the new opportunities it brings. This year, the organisers will expand the festival to include home and garden stalls and demonstrations. Here you’ll discover an abundance of producers and suppliers from whom you can buy lovely new items to fill your house following that Spring-clean! Gardening demos and a fresh flower market will ensure that your little patch of earth will flourish in the coming summer. Family-friendly, there will be a children’s enchanted garden too, where your own little fairies can explore.
Porthleven Food & Music Festival, 20-22nd April, Cornwall
This annual event in the picturesque little harbour town of Porthleven attracted over 30,000 visitors last year and is set to draw similar crowds in 2018. And no wonder it’s popular: a weekend in the middle of spring filled with Cornish food, beer and bands … what’s not to like?
Marquees on the quayside will be packed full of tasty treats from over 150 exhibitors. Last year’s included Cornish chocolatiers Chocolarder, Cornish Meadow Preserves, The Cornish Black Bee Company, The Cornish Food Box Company, and Skinners Brewery with their ever-so-local Porthleven pale ale, as well as delicious street food to enjoy while you browse. The chef’s theatre will host cookery demonstrations from the best local chefs, and you might even spot the odd celebrity too.
