Why is August one of the best months for the British, I hear you ask? Well, not only do we have our summer bank holidays, and some (fingers crossed) great weather, but the food festival calendar is also jam-packed with marvellous things to see and do.
So, crack out your diaries and prepare to get planning some food-fuelled festival fun.
Devon Street Food Festival - Ilfracombe - Friday 4th August to Sunday 6th August
Devon's finest street food festival is back this August. Showcasing al the very best street food in the region, there'll be plenty of gourmet guilty pleasures to tempt you. On top of the mouth-watering food on offer, there's a whole bunch of family fun to be had, making this an event you can't miss!
Valley Fest - Somerset - Friday 4th August to Sunday 6th August
Brought to you by BBC Farmer of the Year, Luke Hassel, in the rolling hills of the Mendips, Valley Fest focuses on the role of food in bringing everyone together. Don't miss the midnight feast, when the clock strikes and everyone gathers by the campfire with late night treats.
No food festival list would be complete without a mention of Foodies. A huge event with a great atmosphere, Foodies Festival brings the very best chefs, food, drinks and competitions to dozens of locations around the UK every year. Be sure to make time for whichever one is near you.
Chilli Fiesta – Chichester – Friday 11th August to Sunday 13th August
As the UK’s biggest Chilli festival this event is the destination for hot-heads. Latino music will be playing all day long to get you fired up whilst you take in the beautiful setting of West Dean gardens. It’s a spicy and scenic siesta!
The most iconic Derbyshire event, as the home of the Cherry Bakewell, is of course the baking festival. Bakewell will welcome thousands of visitors looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, meet expert bakers, GBBO alumni and pick up some baking tips along the way.
The Great British Beer Festival – London – Tuesday 8th August to Saturday 12th August
This is an unmissable and inimitable event for anyone who likes to indulge in a few beers, real ales, ciders or perries. CAMRA has united the UK’s best breweries all under one roof to serve over 900 of the finest alcoholic beverages, including limited editions and one-off specials. Proper pub entertainment including live music and quizzes will also be in full swing at this colossal event.
Chester Vegan Festival - Chester - Sunday 20th August
What better way to get some fantastic vegan food in you, meet some like-minded people and get some recipe inspiration for your own cooking than the Chester Vegan Festival! Now with over 80 stalls, there's plenty to see. Best of all, all profits from these festivals around the country directly support animals in need!
Big Feastival – Cotswolds – Friday 25th August to Sunday 27th August
An event that is always thoroughly enjoyed by all the family, The Big Feastival is set in Alex James’ farm in the Cotswolds. Working alongside Jamie Oliver, both celebrities will be bringing a culinary and musical line-up to be reckoned with. Your best bet is to camp for the whole weekend, for the full experience.
BBC Good Food Festival – Hampton Court Palace – Saturday 26th August to Monday 28th August
One of the best ways to spend your August Bank Holiday will be to attend the BBC Good Food Festival. With the freshest foods cooked by the likes of Paul Hollywood & Michel Roux Jnr. you will leave with some delicious recipe ideas. This year, Joginder's Supperclub will be joining the producers village, showcasing their authentic Punjabi food and inviting you along to some of their events.
Newlyn Fish Festival – Cornwall – Monday 28th August
A regular feature on our top food festival lists, Newlyn Fish Festival has exciting activities like no other. From jet-ski rentals to rowing championships, to an exciting, auction-style fish market and specialist seafood chefs, there’ll be plenty to see and do at this one-day extravaganza.
